- This module aims to provide an overview of key concepts in developmental psychology.
- Students will be introduced to a range of information within this discipline including cognitive, social and moral development.
The module will introduce students to the basic theory, research findings and methods of investigation in developmental psychology. On completion of the module, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the key topics addressed in the module.
Students will have the opportunity to consider how theory and research are integrated within the field of developmental psychology, and how theory and research are applied to real world contexts.
The syllabus will include:
- introduction to developmental psychology
- prenatal development
- development in infancy
- cognitive development
- development of language
- social development
- moral development
- developmental disorders
- contexts for development
- and ageing.

- 10 x 5 hours reading for each lecture
- 7 hours preparation for IBLE
- 28.5 hours revision for end of semester exam.
- 3 hours preparation for tutorial
Students will be expected to complete an online Internet Based learning Exercise, to include practice MCQs. A revision lecture in week 11, including further practice MCQs, will enable students to prepare for their exam. During the tutorial students will deliver an oral presentation to demonstrate their understanding of a selected topic.
